Japanese bank shares fall on concerns about financial impact of the US shutdown

Japanese bank stocks such as Mitsubishi UFJ andSumitomo MitsuiFinancial Group fell due to market concerns that the U.S. government shutdown may have a knock-on impact on the global financing environment. There is concern that such gridlock could deprive policymakers, business leaders and investors of access to critical data needed to assess the state of the U.S. economy. The TSE Bank Index fell as much as 3.4% on Wednesday, becoming one of the main factors dragging down the broader TSE index.
