Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to the White House next Tuesday for his second visit since taking office. Officials from the two countries are negotiating on trade and security issues.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office on Friday, Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a working meeting that day.
Last month, Canada, the United States and Mexico all launched consultations to prepare for the 2026 North American Free Trade Agreement review. Trump signed the agreement during his first term.
"The Prime Minister's working visit will focus on Canada and the United States 'common priorities in the new economic and security relationship," Carney's office said.
Trump announced on July 31 that the United States would increase the so-called fentanyl tariff on Canadian products to 35%. However, these tariffs do not apply to most goods trade between the two countries.
U.S. tariffs on steel, aluminum, automobiles and timber-all Canada's main export industries-are still in effect.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the meeting.
