U.S. President Trump said he set a Sunday night deadline for Hamas to agree to its plan to end the war in Gaza, warning of severe consequences if the group does not sign.
"An agreement must be reached with Hamas by 6 p.m.(6 p.m.) Washington, D.C. time on Sunday night," Trump said on social media on Friday. "Every country has signed! If this last-chance agreement is not reached, hellish consequences, of the kind unseen before, will befall Hamas."
Trump announced a 20-point plan earlier this week with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the conflict. The plan would require Hamas to release all hostages and stipulate that the group, designated by the United States as a terrorist organization, cannot govern in Gaza in the future.
Although Netanyahu has signed the agreement and Trump has claimed support from other Middle Eastern allies, Hamas has not yet agreed to its terms.
